Waste management is a sector that has seen a vast increase in the recent times. Oman has made significant progress towards waste management, the government has established 16 modern landfills, 65 waste transfer stations and 5 treatment plants as its initial step towards meeting the global standards of waste management.

Oman Environmental Services Holding Company (be'ah Oman) has said that the amount of solid waste being generated in the country by 2020 is expected to reach 4.6 million tonnes per annum, which will put greater pressure on the country's landfill sites.
